7 Wedding Gift Ideas You May Not Have Thought Of

01 Jun 2023

Reviewed 11/04/2024

With longer days and milder temperatures, wedding season is upon us!

Unsurprisingly, the most popular months for weddings here in the UK are June, July and August.

We all love a wedding – such a joyous occasion- and we’re delighted to share the celebration with the happy couple.

One of the ways we express our warm wishes and congratulations is by sending wedding gifts.

Why give gifts for weddings?

Historically, wedding gifts were given to help the newlyweds settle into their married life. It was uncommon for couples to co-habit before marrying, so wedding gifts typically constituted of homeware and household items for their new home.

Though some of that has continued, as more people co-habit before marrying, the range of gift types nowadays that people give and receive at weddings has expanded as the primary focus is not always the home.

Gifts are important as they symbolise love, friendship and appreciation for the couple.

Wedding gifts not only acknowledge the commitment the couple have made to each other but they acknowledge your appreciation for being invited to the big day.

They're also a great way to show appreciation if you're not able to make it to the wedding. We help plenty of people send hampers for weddings they're unable to attend whether it's in the UK or abroad.

Scratching your head for wedding gift ideas?

Practical gifts, personalised gifts, keepsake gifts and money are all all popular. Sometimes the couple have a Wedding Gift List.

But what if none of these appeal to you and you’d like to give something different?

Let us help you with a few fun suggestions, guaranteed to create memories for life.

Our 7 wedding gift ideas that you may not have thought of:

  1. A dining experience

Gift them dinner out at a restaurant. It's a great opportunity for them to continue their celebrations together.

Many restaurants now offer gift vouchers.

Perhaps you know they love a particular cuisine...Italian, Indian and so on. Maybe you’d like to treat them to a taste of luxury.

It doesn’t have to be dinner of course; Afternoon Tea is a traditional favourite, loved by all ages.

Whatever the style, it’ll certainly be memorable and an absolute treat!

  1. A spa break

Spoil the Happy Couple with the luxury of a spa break.

After months of stressful wedding planning and prep your friends will appreciate the tranquility a spa can offer. Combined with energising (or calming!) treatments, this is a gift of pure relaxation!

  1. A wine-tasting experience

If you know they appreciate or have an interest in wine, this makes a great gift!

Choose from indoor wine-tasting sessions or a vineyard tours plus tasting, all within beautiful settings. And choose the length of visit, often overnight stays are available.

If they're heading on honeymoon, you could organise one during their trip. Otherwise there's plenty of brilliant British vineyards to visit.

To name a couple, check out Easing Hill and Court Garden - two English vineyards who's delicious wine we include in our wedding hampers

Learn something whilst enjoying the wine!

  1. A weekend away

Gift them a romantic weekend away!

Take your pick from rural retreats, seaside cottages, city breaks or mountain huts!

If the newly-weds are time-pressed perhaps consider somewhere nearer to home.

Wherever it is they’re bound to appreciate the chance to relax and unwind and create lasting memories.

  1. An outdoor experience

Do your friends love the outdoors? Love a challenge? Adrenaline junkies? Or just love being active?

There are a huge amount of activities on offer!

Take your pick from skydiving (indoor one too!),  jet speedboat, ziptrekking, clay pigeon shooting, escape rooms…..and much much more!

A fun and memorable gift!

  1. Commission an artist

Now this idea is certainly off the beaten track! How amazing a gift is that?!

Your chosen artist creates a custom painting or illustration that has special meaning for the couple. It could be something depicting the actual wedding, a place that they love or a pet, for instance.

A thoughtful gift that will last a life-time.

  1. A food hamper

We may be biased, but we created our wedding hamper range for good reason! There’s no doubt about it, a luxury food hamper has a celebratory feel.

It’s a thoughtful and exciting gift, not only to receive but to open and discover what’s inside.

Each time the couple delve into the hamper they’ll feel the celebrations continue!

We have a fantastic range of luxury wedding gift food and wine hampers to suit all budgets here at BHC.

Choose from traditional wicker or one of our high quality British patterned boxes. All are carefully hand-picked and packed and delivered with your own message.

We hope that’s given you a few ideas on some unconventional wedding gifts.

A cliché maybe but it is the thought behind the gift that counts. Take into account the couples’ personalities and interests when choosing gifts and they’ll appreciate and cherish the gift for years to come!
