Did you know the first Christmas Market in UK was held in 1982 in Lincoln?
Originating from Germany, where they have a long history, they’re now held in dozens of UK cities. It seems they’ve become a much-loved festive tradition with many of us regarding them as the real start to Christmas!

Here are a few to look out for this Christmas 2023:
- Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market
3rd Nov – 23rd Dec
The biggest authentic German market in Europe outside of Germany and Austria!
Enjoy almost 200 stalls selling handmade crafts, jewellery, decorations, sausages, beer, mulled wine and not forgetting the pretzels!
There’s an ice rink, live music, carol singing and more.

- York Christmas Market
18th Nov – 23rd Dec
You’ll find a festive atmosphere in the charming city of York. Enjoy delicious local Yorkshire produce, mulled wine and roasted chestnuts and have fun at the fair!

- Norwich Christmas Market
30th Nov – 2nd Dec
There’s so much going on here over several markets in this interesting city. There’s also a permanent outdoor market to visit.
Plenty of East Anglian crafts, street food, hog roasts and Norfolk rum!

More than 160 pop-up festive chalets to visit in this pretty Georgian town. Browse a great selection of produce and items from local artisans and craftsmen.
You could also visit the nearby Bath On Ice….a wonderful skating rink and illuminated adventure golf course!
- Ulverston Dickensian Christmas Festival
25th – 26th Nov
On the edge of the Lake District, this beautiful historic market town comes alive this weekend with street performers, fire-eaters, jugglers, brass bands, a costume parade and more. People are encouraged to dress up for it! Plenty to see and do.

- Padstow Christmas Festival
7th Dec – 10th Dec
This is a food focused event but festive too! Championed by high-profile
local chefs, there are food demos to watch and lots of west country produce on offer….….seafood, artisan breads and cakes, cheeses and beers.
Enjoy locally produced gins, rums, brandy, vodka, preserves and jams.
Also literary talks and book signing going on!
- Glasgow Christmas Markets
18 Nov – 8 Jan
So much to see and do, spread over two Squares in the city. With Glasgow being the cultural hub of the country, apart from good Scottish food you can enjoy produce and items from over 32 countries!
Enjoy the ice skating rink and lots of rides for the kids.
